A specialized procedure to remove excess fluid from the space between your lungs and chest wall, providing immediate relief and diagnostic clarity.
Ultrasound-Guided Precision
Pleural effusion (water around the lungs) can cause shortness of breath and chest pain. Thoracentesis is done for two main reasons:
To analyze the fluid and determine the cause of the effusion (e.g., Infection, Tuberculosis, Malignancy, or Heart Failure).
To remove large amounts of fluid that are compressing the lung, helping you breathe easier immediately.
The skin and chest wall are numbed, so you feel minimal discomfort.
We often use ultrasound to pinpoint the exact location of fluid, preventing complications.
Most patients go home the same day after a short observation period.
Note: Inform us if you are on blood thinners (Warfarin, Aspirin, etc.) as they may need to be stopped prior to the procedure.
